Congratulations to the two groups that qualified for and participated in the BT Young Scientist competition which took place last week. Both groups were outstanding in their presentations to both the public and the judges.
Luke and Conor’s project was highly commended and received a rosette.
Well done to Luke, Conor, Michael, Mark and Grainne.

Our budding Young Scientists take to the radio waves at ‘Scariff Bay Community Radio’ before their trip to the RDS this week. Best of Luck to the two groups. Hopefully all their hard work will pay off.

Pope John Paul II awards.

25 students from St Josephs Received their Pope John Paul II awards on Thursday 10th November from Bishop Fintan Monaghan in a ceremony in the Inn at Dromoland. These awards are organised by Fr Ger Jones for the diocese of Killoloe to help young people to get involved in their parishes and communities
The Students helped out in their churches by reading at Mass, Cleaning the church, visiting the elderly, training teams, being leaders in Faith Friends among other things.
We are very proud of all of these students. We thank them for their commitment to their parishes and school. Nathan Peer a Leaving Cert won the Papal Award after participating in World Youth Day in Poland.

Taekwon-Do World Cup Success

Congratulations to Mr. Stephen Ryan (coach) and Joanna O'Sullivan (3A1) who were part of the Irish ITF Taekwon-Do Team who returned from the Taekwon-Do World Cup, which was held in Budapest last week, with 15 Gold, 13 Silver and 26 Bronze medals. The event was attended by 60 countries and 1,852 competitors. Ireland finished in 2nd place in the overall country classification, just behind Argentina and beating Russia and Poland into 3rd and 4th respectively. Joanna O'Sullivan, who is part of Mr. Ryan's Taekwon-Do club in Quin, earned a Bronze medal in the -55kg sparring division following several intense bouts. Mr Ryan had 9 of his direct students from the local Quin club taking part and between them they returned with 13 medals. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both Mr Ryan and Joanna on their amazing achievements.

Congratulations to our Irish traditional musicians who have qualified for the next round of Siansa. This is a wonderful achievement as it is our first year entering this competition. The group have also recorded a CD. Siansa is one of the country’s most prestigious competitions for young traditional Irish music and singing groups. Organised by Gael Linn with support from Foras na Gaeilge, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Irish Music Magazine, Siansa provides a platform for talented teenage groups who aim to emulate groups such as Téada, Altan, Danú, Dervish etc. The members of this group include: Aisling Clarke, Dearbhla Creavan, Aisling Donnellan, David Donnellan, Gillian Donnellan, Catríona Hassett, Áine Murphy, Naoise O'Sullivan.

Over 90 confirmation students from our local primary schools participates in faith friends programme
which was run by the TY students. The programme was run over two nights in the school hall where
the TY students passed on their faith through this peer ministry. Well done to all the TY students involved.
We would like to wish the confirmation candidates every blessing in the future.

TY 2 class were delighted to present a cheque for €1,400 to our local branch of Down Syndrome Ireland. They raised the money as part of their Young Social Innovators project and their enterprise project where they aimed to raise awareness of Inclusiveness for people with special needs. They also have succeeded in getting into the finals of YSI which is being held in Dublin on Wednesday next. We wish them all the best! Well done to all of the TY class.
