GloHealth Munster Schools Track & Field Championships

The GloHealth Munster Schools Track & Field Championships took place on Saturday 21st May in Waterford Regional Sports Centre. Amid sunshine & swirling winds, the spectators were treated to an array of exciting finishes & personal bests in lots of events. Among the athletes who achieved personal bests was Kevin Caulfield in the Intermediate Boys Discus competition, where he threw 37.91m which earned him a bronze medal. He improved his PB by 2.91 metres, a feat which was all the more impressive as he had incurred an injury earlier in the day, while competing in the shot put competition, where he finished a creditable 4th place. It was a fantastic day of athletics & well done to the Munster Schools Athletics Association & all their wonderful volunteers for running the competition so well. A big congratulations to Kevin and we wish him the very best of luck at the Irish Schools Track & Field Championships on Saturday 4th June.

Intermediate Boys Team Qualify for All-Ireland Schools’ Cross Country Championships

St. Joseph’s was represented by three teams at the recent Munster Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships, which were held in Tramore Valley Park, Cork.
Our junior girls were first to run. The team members were Kayleigh Cahill, Maeve Moroney, Nessa Flynn, Sarah Bergquist, Leah Molloy and Aisling Dooley. Our junior boys team members were Fintan Caulfield, Paddy Donnellan, Cormac Murphy, Enda Madden, Joe O’Sullivan, Luke Meade and Christopher Notre. All these athletes ran very well but unfortunately neither team qualified for the All-Ireland’s.
Our intermediate boys put in very impressive performances, with Sean Cahill in 7th position. He was followed closely by David Meehan Sean Murphy, Feargal Kearney and John Duggan. These great performances from the boys led to bronze medals in the team event, and qualification for the All-Ireland’s.
We are so proud of all of our athletes, and are now looking forward to the All-Ireland Schools’ Competition which will be held in Sligo Racecourse on Saturday March 5th.
