North Munster Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships Success for St. Joseph’s

St. Joseph’s students from 1st Year to Transition Year took part in the North Munster Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships last Thursday January 29th. Well done to all our athletes who endured very challenging running conditions in Pallaskenry, Co. Limerick.
Our minor girls were first to run. Cliodhna Ryan and Rebeca Keane put in great performances on a very wet, cold and windy day. Next runners up were our minor boys team of Adam O’ Neill, Jimmy O’Gorman, Ben Ryan, Liam McInerney, Dan Withycombe, AJ Reynolds and Ronan McGrath. All ran very well in very heavy underfoot conditions.
Kayleigh Cahill had a great individual performance in the junior girls race, finishing in a very impressive 6th position, followed by Maeve Moroney, Sarah Bergquist, Leah Molloy, Nessa Flynn and Aisling Dooley. These girls came 4th in the team event and have now qualified for the Munster Schools Competition.
First year Fintan Caulfield ran a fantastic race in the junior boys event, finishing in 6th position, followed closely by team mates Paddy Donnellan, Cormac Murphy and Enda Madden. This ensured a second place position in the team event and another Munster qualification. The other team members were Joe O’Sullivan, Christopher Notre, Luke Meade, Jonah Bartelink and William Corbett.
Our intermediate boys put in very impressive performances, with Sean Cahill (4th), David Meehan (5th), Sean Murphy (15th) and John Duggan (16th) all finishing high up. They were followed closely by Cathal Browne, Feargal Kearney, Stephen Donnellan and Keith Donnellan. These great performances from the boys led to a silver medal in the team event, ensuring that St. Joseph’s will have 3 teams running in the Munster Competition. The other intermediate boys running were Alan O’Dea, Niall Queally and Paul Kelleher.
We are so proud of all of our athletes, particularly given the very challenging running conditions on the day. We are now looking forward to the Munster Schools’ Competition which will be held in Cork IT on Thursday February 11th.
