Detention Policy

Step 1:

Evening Detention No. 1 (9 offences)

a) A letter is handed from the Year Head to the student informing them of detention details.

b) A text also informs parents of time and date of same.

c) The student meets with the Year Head to discuss the reasons they are on detention and to seek a way of ensuring it can be avoided in the future.

Step 2 :

Evening Detention No.2 (18 offences)

a) If a student receives a second detention, a letter is handed from the Year Head to the student informing them of detention details.

b) A text is also sent providing detention details.

c) A letter is sent to the student’s parents requesting a meeting between Year Head, student and parents. (Phone call discussion deemed acceptable if parents unable to attend)

Step 3:

Evening Detention No. 3 (27 offences)

The Year Head now informs the Deputy Principal that the student is now on a 3rd Evening Detention.

a) A letter is handed to the student by the Year Head outlining details of same.

b) A text is sent to parents.

c) A standard letter is sent home from the Deputy Principal

requesting a meeting between the Deputy Principal, parents and student. It will be made clear at this meeting that if the problem continues, the next meeting shall be with the Principal.

Step 4: Evening Detention No. 4 (36 offences)

The Year Head informs the Principal and Deputy Principal of the 4th evening detention.

  1. A letter is handed to the student by the Year Head

b) A text is sent to parents.

  1. At this point a standard letter shall be sent by the Principal requesting a meeting with the parents and student to discuss suspension.

**** Once a student receives a 3rd Evening Detention, regardless of how it was acquired, step 3 and 4 apply.
